An angle guide is what turns "I raised a burr" into "I held 17 degrees across the whole edge." Today Engineer Yanchi Li (Ruimo Tech) unboxes and tests the Sy Tools T05-AMZ — a precision angle regulator we pair with the Sy Tools D diamond stones.

What's in the box

The Sy Tools T05-AMZ kit includes a base, a graduated angle pivot, and a knife holder. The body is anodized aluminium — it does not flex under pressure, which matters when you draw the stone along the edge. In the hand it feels like a tool, not a toy.

Why the angle matters

Edge retention is decided by geometry, not by the abrasive. Freehand, a beginner drifts 3–4 degrees per pass and ends up with a wavy, fast-dulling edge. Sy Tools T05-AMZ locks the angle mechanically: set 15° or 20° per side and stroke without thinking about your wrist. That is why we recommend it to newcomers.

Engineer Yanchi Li's tip: 20° per side for a German chef's knife, 15° for a hard Japanese blade. If you are unsure of the steel, start at 17–18° and watch how the edge behaves.

Pros and cons (honestly)

What to pair it with

Sy Tools T05-AMZ shines next to the Sy Tools D-series diamond stones (base D for removal, RO for upkeep, LVD/SU for finish) and the Sy Tools YHB ceramic rod for light touch-ups. Line pricing is in the ¥4.99–14.99 range (Russia retail price — 待核实).
